Week 1 - Fish

In Maya we were tasked with creating a fish following a Lynda tutorial from this reference:

Adding this image to a nurbs plane to create the reference to work from I went about creating a cube with a few subdivisions on the X and Y axes. From that cube I extruded edges in various directions to create a very rough, boxy outline of the fish. Then using the side view with an X-ray view on I selected each of the vertices and positioned them to line up with the reference more accurately.

After this I created the fins by using the wedge tool and then positioned them appropriately. I then cut the image in half so I could mirror it to make it symmetrical in the Z axis. I joined the two halves together and smoothed the final piece. I then went about positioning the vertices while smoothed - more accurately this time - to create the shape of the fish. I finally added a nurbs sphere which I reshaped and cut in half to create the eyes. Below is my finished piece.
